Big Pets And How They Are Perfect For Children
A pet is not just a companion for you, it is a companion for children as well. Children can benefit a lot from a pet that you might own, and a lot of this has to do with the fact that there are so many different opportunities for children to interact with a living being that loves them unconditionally. However, one thing that you should keep in mind is the fact that children tend to benefit a lot more from bigger pets as opposed to smaller ones.
This might sound odd to you because of the fact that most people tend to think that smaller pets are better for smaller children, and big pets are great for adults. After all, this is why so many people get little pets such as guinea pigs and hamsters for their children, all the while assuming that a big dog would not be useful in this situation. However, if you think about it, a bigger pet is a much better choice for many reasons. The first reason is that smaller pets are fragile, and young children can often wreak havoc upon them. It would be ethically wrong to subject an innocent animal to this type of torment, and since children are too young to know what they are doing they can’t really be blamed for their actions. Hence, it is best to keep smaller animals away from children and let big animals play with them and keep up with their almost limitless energy.
A common argument for getting children smaller pets is that it would teach them responsibility. While it is true that taking care of a pet requires a fair amount of responsibility and children tend to need lessons like this in their lives, it is also true that smaller pets are far more difficult to take care of than larger animals. A big dog will need to be brushed and fed, but these are things that any child can do. Smaller animals require a lot more specialty knowledge which children often don’t have. Hence, it would be far more logical to get a child a big pet that would not need to be taken care of as much because children need something easy to get them started.
Bigger dogs also tend to be better trained, simply because of the fact that if they were not well trained they might end up becoming dangerous. Hence, since they are better trained you are more likely to trust them around your children. This is going to result in a far more relaxed atmosphere for you, since you would know that your pet would be able to quickly learn the responsibilities it would have to handle while you are not around. If your child is old enough, a big dog can actually be a great baby sitter to help your child be as safe as possible while you are not around for a short period of time.
