In order to be eligible to compete in the Westminster Dog Show 2023, a dog must meet certain requirements set forth by The American Kennel Club (AKC). These include: being registered with AKC; being at least 6 months old; being healthy; having all required vaccinations; and not having any disqualifying physical traits or behavioral issues as determined by an AKC judge prior to competition.

At this year’s show, there will be 7 different categories: Sporting Dogs, Working Dogs, Terriers, Toy Dogs, Non-Sporting Dogs, Herding Dogs and Miscellaneous Class (which includes newly recognized breeds). This year’s panel consists of some of the most respected names in canine conformation judging including: Dr John Reeve-Newson DVM PhD DACVIM (Veterinary Medicine), Dr Richard Meen DVM DACVIM (Veterinary Medicine), David Helming MS DVM PhD DACVIM (Veterinary Medicine), Robert Shreve MS DVM DACVIM (Veterinary Medicine) and others who have been selected based on their expertise within their respective fields as well as their experience judging conformation shows around the world.

7. Prizes at The Westminster Dog Show 2023

The winner of Best In Show at The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show receives a cash prize of $50,000 as well as a solid silver bowl donated by Tiffany & Co., while winners of each individual breed receive a smaller cash prize plus other awards such as ribbons or trophies depending on their placement within that breed’s competition classifications.
